Tea and Sewing

Home base for my two passions, drinking tea and sewing. To me they go hand in hand. Both are quiet, personal hobbies. While sewing can be intensive, making and drinking tea is the best way to take a break and clear your mind.

I enjoy all types of sewing. I love working on projects. I'll link to a few of my favorites in the next pages.

My dream is have my own sewing room, complete with full sewing table for my machine and a cutting table to the side. Each wall will be covered in storage for all my sewing stuff. Some day, when I have the space, but for now I'll just have to keep dreaming.

But first a little about my teapot collection. I love collecting teapots. I have so many that they are scattered all over the house, in every room. I'm looking for a cabinet that I can store them all, in one place. The picture below isn't my collection, but an example of the type of cabinet I'm looking for. It has a glass front so all my pots can be seen, but I don't have to dust them. And it's an older style, but not too grandmotherly. This one below is perfect. I just need to see where I can buy a cabinet just like it.

I like the old look of the cabinet pictured above. I'm not into the modern styles, like clean and white, but more the wood grain finishes with some ornamental features. If you ccome to my house, you'd see that this cabinet would fit in with all the rest of my stuff. Look at the paneled wall behind the cabinet and the old hardwood floors. That's me!

One of the advantages of living in an old Victorian house is the look and style. That's why I live in one! The biggest disadvantage, however, is space. Our home is very narrow, and the rooms are small compared to a newer home. I love it, but there's a lot less room. I don't have a dedicated sewing room and that's my dilemma.

We have a plan to put a nice sunny addition on the back. This will give us a more open concept living space and a lot more room. Then I can convert the front living room into a sewing/craft room. But this won't happen anytime soon. We're saving up some money and it looks like it will be a few more years. So for now, I need to settle for some sewing space in the corner of the dining room.

Seeing as I don't have a lot of space, I've been looking for a storage solution for all my sewing stuff. Over at sewingfurniture.org, I found the Sauder sewing table. This table is perfect for my needs! The surface is big enough to use for my sewing machine and fabrics, and when I'm not using it, it folds away. The Cinnamon Cherry color fits into my overall decor. And it's not super-expensive! When I get my own sewing room, I might buy something a bit more elaborate, but the Sauder might work well in my room too. If not, I haven't spent thousands, so I won't feel that guilty buying another sewing table.

My sewing table

This is a stock image of my sewing table. It's not installed yet, so I don't have a picture of my own. But I'll post it when I do! This picture shows it in "fold-up" mode. Everything is neatly rucked away inside!
